The challenge

Bay Ship Co. in Alameda has called us back for pavement replacement and new street installation work many times over the years. This was one of those jobs.

A working shipyard is one of the tougher places to pave in the Bay Area. The pavement takes concentrated loads from heavy equipment and industrial traffic, not the lighter car traffic a parking lot is built for, and the site sits right on the water.

The yard also has to keep running. We plan our work around the facility's day, not the other way around.

How it was executed

We removed the failed pavement areas and replaced them with a section built for industrial loads, and installed new street where the facility needed access it didn't have before.

A compact seven-person crew handled the work over a single week, sized to keep the yard running smoothly around us rather than to push for the most output per day.

The result

Delivered in one week, with the yard running throughout. Bay Ship Co. has kept bringing us back since.
